Gunmen attack SDF, Asayish forces in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified gunmen launched on Monday evening attacks targeting a checkpoint manned by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and a military vehicle belonging to the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
The incidents resulted in material damage only, with no reported casualties.
A military source close to the SDF told North Press that two armed individuals on a motorcycle opened fire with automatic weapons at the “al-Rey” checkpoint, located on the outskirts of Shuhail town, east of Deir ez-Zor.
According to the source, a brief armed clash followed the attack, forcing the assailants to retreat.
The exchange of fire caused no injuries, and damages were limited to property.
In a separate incident in the town of Abriha, also in the east of Deir ez-Zor, two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle fired at an Asayish military vehicle. The attack caused no casualties or injuries.
These incidents come amid growing concerns over security instability in the region, where sleeper cells affiliated with ISIS and other unidentified armed groups have previously carried out similar attacks targeting local forces.
