U.S. envoy says Syria holding quiet talks with Israel
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Ambassador to Ankara and Special Envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrack, revealed on Friday that the new Syrian administration is engaged in quiet talks with Israel, signaling a potential shift in regional dynamics.
In an interview on Al Jazeera, Barrack stated that discussions between Syria and Israel are progressing steadily and “cover all major issues,” including border disputes and repeated Israeli incursions.
The remarks follow a report by Israel’s Channel 12 on Friday claiming that Syria and Israel are edging closer to signing a peace agreement, potentially before the end of the year.
Barrack emphasized that he is optimistic about the ongoing talks, noting that “the current Syrian leadership is not in conflict with Israel, nor does it seek confrontation.”
He also stressed that the United States intends to support, rather than dictate to, the Syrian administration, saying that they believe Syria should be given a chance.
He added that the U.S.’ goal is not to impose demands, but to assist—and it has already begun this process by easing sanctions.
