U.S. envoy reaffirms support for Syrian government
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Ambassador to Ankara and Special Envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrack, reaffirmed on Thursday Washington’s support for the Syrian transitional government and its protection from Iranian-backed groups.
In an interview with Al Arabiya English, Barrack expressed his admiration for Ahmad al-Sharaa, praising his focus and historical knowledge.
“Our goal is to protect the Syrian government from Iran-backed groups,” Barrack said, emphasizing that U.S. foreign policy in the region has shifted.
“Our priority in Syria is prosperity and security, and we do not interfere with the form of governance,” he added.
He added that the U.S. priority in Syria is ensuring prosperity and security. “We are committed to allowing the government of [Syria’s President Ahmed] al-Sharaa to prove itself,” he noted, “Our priority in Syria is prosperity and security, and we do not interfere with the form of governance.”
