UN, Syrian Red Crescent convoy enters Alouk water station in NE Syria

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – A convoy of the United Nations and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent entered on Tuesday the Alouk water station near the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in northeastern Syria.

A security source told North Press that the convoy’s entry was coordinated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and accompanied by vehicles from the U.S.-led Global Coalition.

The convoy, consisting of five vehicles, entered through the Shirk crossing in the western countryside of Derbasiyah, and proceeded directly to the Alouk station, located in the countryside of Sere Kaniye, which is controlled by Turkish-backed armed factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA).

Since late 2019, the Alouk water station has been under the control of Turkish forces and affiliated SNA factions, resulting in the disruption of drinking water supplies to residents of Hasakah city and its surrounding countryside, who depend on the station as a primary source.

The source, who requested anonymity for security reasons, added that the convoy later departed the station and began touring areas within Sere Kaniye.

The Shirk crossing separates the countryside of Derbasiyah from Turkey. It has previously been used by Russian forces for joint patrols with the Turkish military along the border road north of Derbasiyah and Amuda.
