ISIS attack targets Asayish checkpoint in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) announced on Wednesday that one of its checkpoints in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, came under attack by Islamic State (ISIS) cells.

In an official statement, the Asayish said the attack occurred at approximately 1:00 AM, when militants used rockets to target a checkpoint in the town of Daranj.

The incident resulted in material damage only, with no injuries among security personnel.

Following the attack, Asayish forces launched an immediate sweep of the area, deploying intensive patrols in an effort to track down the attackers and reinforce security in and around the town.

The statement affirmed that the Asayish remain committed to pursuing ISIS cells that seek to destabilize the region and threaten the safety of civilians, vowing to continue counterterrorism operations in eastern Deir ez-Zor and other vulnerable areas.
