Over 17,000 students sit for AANES exams in NE Syria
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – An official of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Saturday that 17,586 students are currently taking exams in northeastern Syria, based on the AANES’ educational curriculum and assessment system.
Khalaf al-Matar, co-chair of the Education Board of the AANES, told North Press that the exams are being conducted under a system that combines traditional testing with a cumulative assessment model.
The examination process, which began on June 14, includes both middle and high school levels and will continue until July 6.
In addition to final exams, the AANES employs a continuous assessment approach that factors in students’ academic performance throughout the year. This includes attendance, classroom participation, assignments, and teacher evaluations. These components contribute to the final grade of regularly attending students.
Al-Matar noted that this year, 8,629 middle school students and 5,457 high school students are being assessed under this system. He also said that 1,500 non-attending (external) students are taking middle school exams, while 2,000 are taking high school exams.
For several years, the AANES has implemented its own curriculum across areas under its administration, which features instruction in Kurdish, Arabic, and Syriac—depending on the region and community.
