Germany intensifies efforts to clear mines in Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The German special envoy to Syria, Stefan Schneck, announced on Tuesday that Germany is stepping up its efforts to clear landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) across Syria.

In a post on X, Schneck wrote that mines and unexploded ordnance pose a serious threat to the lives of many Syrians.

He emphasized that Germany is intensifying its humanitarian mine clearance efforts to save lives and facilitate reconstruction.

Schneck also reaffirmed Germany’s continued support and solidarity with the Syrian people.

In April, the media office of Syria’s Ministry of Defense told North Press that landmines and unexploded ordnance remain widespread in northwestern Syria, posing ongoing risks to civilians and hindering recovery efforts.
