US Rep. says Trump to issue executive order lifting key sanctions on Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Representative Cory Mills announced on Tuesday that lifting sanctions on Syria would significantly contribute to reconstruction efforts and economic growth, while also paving the way for meaningful progress by the current government or any future elected administration.
In an interview with Syria TV, Mills revealed that U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to issue an executive order in the coming days that would revoke a set of U.S. sanctions imposed on Syria.
He explained that Trump’s signature on the executive order would prompt the U.S. Treasury Department to lift the relevant sanctions, unlocking financial capabilities and allowing for free trade with Syria. Mills noted that this move does not necessarily require the repeal of the Caesar Act, which remains a separate legislative matter.
He clarified that the full repeal of the Caesar Act would require action by the congressional legislative committee.
He emphasized that the United States could play a direct role in supporting Syria’s recovery by enabling American companies to participate in reconstruction projects and by facilitating economic agreements between Syria and countries in the region.
Commenting on Syria’s political future, Mills stated, “The country has emerged from a dictatorship that ruled for more than 50 years. It’s time Syria had a real opportunity to move forward.”
