Lebanese army arrests 2 for smuggling weapons near Syria border

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Lebanese army arrested on Tuesday two individuals involved in smuggling weapons and ammunition into the country, during a security operation in the Shtoura area, near the Syrian-Lebanese border.

In an official statement, the army said the suspects were apprehended while transporting a large quantity of shells, mortars, and ammunition in their vehicle.

The statement added that the relevant directorate also raided their residences in the town of Taminin, Baalbek, where a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, and narcotics was discovered at one of the homes.

Authorities also seized counterfeit currency. All confiscated items were handed over to the appropriate authorities, and an investigation is underway under the supervision of the competent judiciary, the statement concluded.
