Landmine blasts kill one, injure three in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – One person was killed on Tuesday and three others were injured in two separate landmine explosions in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A local source from the town of Khasham, in the northern Deir ez-Zor countryside, said that Ghassan al-Muhammad lost his life when a landmine—left behind from previous conflicts—detonated as he was returning to his long-abandoned home.
The source told North Press that al-Muhammad had been living abroad for several years and had returned to his hometown earlier that morning.
In a separate incident in the “Area 55” of the Syrian desert, near the administrative border of Deir ez-Zor, another landmine explosion occurred, this time affecting a group of shepherds.
The source added that Hussein, Atiya, and Ahmed al-Daoud, all from the town of al-Heri near the Syrian-Iraqi border, sustained injuries as a result of the blast.
