Over 25,000 Syrian refugees return in one week as border crossings reopen
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Mazen Alloush, Director of Public Relations at Syria’s General Authority for Land and Sea Ports, announced on Sunday that 25,000 Syrian refugees returned to the country during the first week of June.
He added that a total of 90,000 refugees re-entered Syria through land border crossings during May alone.
Speaking to Syrian media outlets, Alloush stated that more than 400,000 Syrian refugees returned via official land crossings since the collapse of state control over large parts of the country during the conflict.
According to Alloush, the vast majority of returnees came from neighboring countries, particularly Turkey, Lebanon, Iraq, and Jordan.
He also noted that efforts to rehabilitate Syria’s land and sea border crossings have been underway since the breakdown of central authority, with the goal of ensuring the safe and organized return of refugees.
