CENTCOM reports joint operations with SDF, Iraqi forces against ISIS

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Thursday that it had participated in six counterterrorism operations—five in Iraq and one in Syria—resulting in the killing of two ISIS operatives and the capture of two others, including a senior leader of the group in Iraq. The identity of the detained leader was not disclosed.

“U.S. Central Command forces supported partner forces in operations in Iraq and Syria, May 21-27, in support of the ongoing Defeat ISIS campaign,” the CENTCOM said in a statement.

In Iraq, between May 21 and 27, Iraqi forces carried out a series of operations targeting ISIS cells in the northern governorates of Salah al-Din, Kirkuk, and Fallujah.

These operations resulted in the destruction and clearance of multiple ISIS sites, the seizure of small arms, ammunition, and other materials, and the killing of two ISIS fighters. A senior group leader was also captured during the raids.

“Operations like these underscore the commitment of USCENTCOM, along with our allies and partners, to the enduring defeat of ISIS in the region,” said Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, USCENTCOM Commander.
