Israel launches airstrikes on south Syria in response to rocket fire
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Israeli army announced on Tuesday that it had carried out airstrikes in southern Syria.
The Israeli forces said the operation was in retaliation for rocket fire from Syrian territory, holding the Syrian transitional government accountable for the escalation.
Earlier in the day, Israeli Army Radio reported that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) had initiated a military response after rockets were launched toward areas under Israeli control in the Golan Heights.
The IDF said that in response to the projectiles launched toward Israeli territory, Israeli Air Force fighter jets struck weapons depots belonging to the Syrian regime in southern Syria.
The statement emphasized that the Syrian regime is responsible for all activities occurring within its territory and will bear the consequences of continued hostilities.
The Israeli military reaffirmed its stance, declaring that the IDF will act decisively against any threat to the State of Israel.
Meanwhile, Syria’s state-run al-Ikhbariya TV reported that Israeli aircraft had carried out airstrikes targeting multiple locations, including Tel Shaar in the Quneitra countryside, areas near the city of Izraa in Daraa’s central countryside, and the Saasaa and Kanaker areas in the Damascus countryside.
The exchange follows the reported firing of two shells from Syrian territory into the Golan Heights.
