German envoy welcomes progress in Syrian government-AANES talks
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – German envoy to Syria, Stefan Schneck, welcomed on Monday the progress made in the negotiations between the Syrian transitional government and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), held on Sunday.
In a post on the X platform in Arabic, Schneck stated: “Germany welcomes the progress made in the talks between the Syrian government and representatives of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the AANES.”
He added: “Reaching a peaceful, Syrian-led resolution to the remaining issues—based on consensus—represents a significant step toward a comprehensive and sustainable process for a better future for all Syrians.”
The meeting, held in Damascus, marked the first official session between the AANES’ delegation and the Syrian transitional government.
The discussions aimed to address the terms of the agreement reached between Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi.
On Sunday, Brigadier General Ziyad al-Ayesh, a member of the committee tasked with finalizing the agreement with the SDF, described the meeting as having taken place in a “constructive and responsible atmosphere, with both parties demonstrating a shared commitment to the national interest.”
The German envoy pointed out that his country is going on in its support for this Syrian process.
