Government-AANES talks focus on education, IDPs return

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – An official of the Syrian transitional government said on Sunday that the meeting between the government and a delegation of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) was held in a constructive and responsible atmosphere, with both parties demonstrating a shared commitment to the national interest.

Brigadier General Ziyad Fawaz al-Ayesh, who was appointed last week as Deputy Minister of Interior for Civil Affairs and a member of the central negotiation committee with the AANES, added that the parties reached an understanding on addressing pending issues related to school examinations and exam centers.

In remarks to the state-run SANA news agency, al-Ayesh emphasized that the aim is to ensure students’ rights and the integrity of the educational process.

Earlier on Sunday, a negotiating source from the AANES told North Press that the first round of talks with the Syrian transitional government in Damascus focused primarily on education.

Al-Ayesh further mentioned that discussions also covered mechanisms for facilitating the return of displaced persons to their home areas, including efforts to remove barriers hindering this process, according to SANA.
