Joint Lebanese-Syrian operation dismantles drug networks along border

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – A coordinated security operation between Lebanese forces and Syrian General Security forces led to the dismantling of the majority of drug production facilities along the shared border between the two countries, Lebanese sources said on Saturday.

According to the Kuwaiti newspaper al-Anbaa, official Lebanese sources stated that a significant number of individuals involved in drug trafficking and smuggling operations to Arab and European countries were arrested during the operation.

The sources described the joint operation as a major security milestone for both Lebanon and Syria, emphasizing its importance in curbing cross-border criminal activity.

This step marks a clear signal that Lebanon is beginning to reclaim its security role and reassert sovereignty over its border regions, the sources added, noting that the move is expected to positively impact stability in both countries.

They also underscored that the success of the campaign was the result of direct and active security coordination between Lebanon and Syria—something international and regional stakeholders have long advocated for, especially amid growing concerns over the widespread impact of drug proliferation on Lebanese society.

The sources added that the destruction of these drug manufacturing sites delivers a significant blow to the financial networks of outlawed groups operating in both Lebanon and Syria.
