U.S. Envoy to Syria reopens ambassador’s residence in Damascus

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack arrived on Thursday in Damascus to reopen the U.S. ambassador’s residence by raising the American flag.

Upon his arrival, Barrack met with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani. According to the state-run news agency (SANA), the two officials took part in a ceremony to reopen the U.S. Ambassador’s residence. The residence had been closed since 2012, a year after the Syrian conflict began.

On Wednesday, Trump revealed via his Truth Social platform that Barrack, the current U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, would also serve as Washington’s Special Envoy to Syria.

State media published photos of Barrack raising the American flag at the residence, with al-Shibani present at the event.
