Landmine blast injures 4 children in Syria’s Hama
HAMA, Syria (North Press) – Four children were injured on Wednesday after a landmine, a remnant of war, exploded in an agricultural area in the western countryside of Hama, west-central Syria.
Local sources told North Press that the landmine explosion occurred while the four children were working in farmland near the village of al-Bana. They were immediately transferred to Suqaylabiyah National Hospital for treatment.
Earlier the same day, three other children were wounded when an unexploded shell detonated in the town of al-Asharah of Deir ez-Zor countryside, eastern Syria.
For years, unexploded ordnance and other remnants of war have continued to claim lives and cause injuries on a near-monthly basis, especially among children. The most affected areas include Deir ez-Zor and other parts of eastern Syria.
The injured children, all from the al-Samahi family, were identified as Mustafa, Khaled, Ahmad, and Raed al-Samahi. The severity of their injuries varies, with Raed reported to be in critical condition.
