BERLIN, Germany (North Press) – Badran Jia Kurd, advisor to the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), announced Tuesday that he held a meeting with Germany’s Special Envoy to Syria, Stefan Schneck, in Berlin to discuss the latest developments in Syria and ways to enhance cooperation on counterterrorism and humanitarian support.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of the German Federal Foreign Office and was attended by Schneck’s team responsible for Syrian affairs and counterterrorism coordination. According to a statement by Jia Kurd posted on his official Facebook page, the discussions reflected Germany’s continued interest in supporting stabilization efforts in Syria through partnership with local actors.
Key topics on the agenda included strengthening cooperation in combating terrorism, bolstering humanitarian aid efforts, and promoting political dialogue with Syria’s transitional authorities. Jia Kurd emphasized the importance of inclusive national dialogue and expressed the AANES’s willingness to contribute constructively to a future Syrian political settlement based on partnership and shared governance.
Also discussed were mechanisms to support the safe and voluntary return of displaced Syrians to their original communities under stable and secure conditions. The advisor underscored the necessity of sustained international engagement to help lay the foundations for long-term peace and reconstruction, particularly in areas liberated from the Islamic State (ISIS) and other extremist groups.
The AANES, which governs a broad swath of northeast Syria with the support of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has emerged as a key player in ensuring regional security, especially in the face of ongoing challenges posed by remnants of ISIS and instability in adjacent regions.
While the meeting did not yield immediate agreements, both parties affirmed the importance of maintaining dialogue and expanding cooperation. Germany has previously contributed to humanitarian and stabilization projects in northeast Syria, and its role is considered crucial by local authorities in supporting post-conflict recovery and governance development.
This meeting marks a continuation of the AANES’s diplomatic outreach to European nations, seeking recognition of its governance model and partnership in building a more inclusive and stable future for Syria.
