DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The European Union announced on Tuesday that it will increase its humanitarian aid to Syria this year to over €202 million.
In a statement posted on X, the EU Mission to Syria said, “taking into account the precarious situation in North-East Syria, the Commission has allocated an additional €20 million in humanitarian aid funding, bringing the total of humanitarian aid to Syria for 2025 to €202.5 million.”
The aid will focus on essential needs in northeastern Syria, particularly food security and healthcare services, according to the mission.
Earlier this month, on May 20, the EU announced the lifting of all sanctions on Syria, following a decision by U.S. President Donald Trump made during his visit to the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The funding announcement comes after the EU hosted the ninth edition of the Brussels Conference on March 18, which focused on mobilizing support for a sustainable political transition in Syria.
