Syrian authorities arrest ISIS cell, seize weapons cache near Damascus
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Monday the arrest of an Islamic State (ISIS) cell and the seizure of a cache of weapons in the countryside of the capital, Damascus.
Hussam al-Tahan, head of internal security in Rif Dimashq Governorate, stated that authorities had received intelligence about ISIS activity in several areas of Western Ghouta, including al-Kiswah, Deir Khabiyah, al-Muqayliba, and Zakiyah.
He said that after collecting information and monitoring the suspects’ movements, security forces raided the cell’s hideout on Sunday. The operation led to the arrest of the cell’s members and the confiscation of a significant quantity of light, medium, and heavy weapons.
According to al-Tahan, the seized items included missile launchers, anti-tank missiles, explosive devices, and suicide vests, which the group had allegedly intended to use in attacks aimed at destabilizing the region.
