Landmine blast kills man, injures child in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A young man was killed and a child injured on Sunday following the explosion of a landmine, a remnant of war, in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria.
A local source told North Press that the landmine detonated while a group of shepherds were grazing livestock on farmland in the village of al-Dwair, east of Deir ez-Zor.
The explosion claimed the life of 23-year-old Basel al-Ammar and seriously injured a child identified as Hakim al-Ammar.
According to the source, such incidents are frequent in al-Dwair, where many landmines were reportedly planted by Iranian-backed militias before their withdrawal from the area at the end of 2024.
