Forum in Qamishli explores Kurdish unity in Syria’s future
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A forum titled “Strengthening Kurdish Unity: Challenges and Future Prospects” convened on Tuesday in the city of Qamishli, northeastern Syria, bringing together politicians, academics, and intellectuals from across northern and eastern Syria to discuss the future of Kurdish political cooperation and its implications for Syria.
Walid Chouli, a researcher at the Qamishli-based Euphrates Center for Studies, told North Press that the forum aims to review and debate the political document produced during the Conference on Kurdish Unity in Syria, which was held on April 26.
According to Chouli, the forum will explore the Kurdish issue through historical and contemporary lenses, addressing the need to reinforce Kurdish unity and the impact of the Kurdish political document on broader Syrian national affairs.
Discussions will also cover Kurdish perspectives on Syria’s future from constitutional and institutional standpoints, Chouli added.
The event includes a wide range of participants who were also involved in the earlier Kurdish unity conference, including academics, political figures, and civil society actors.
The researcher indicated that the forum is structured around three main themes: The importance of consolidating Kurdish unity, the national dimension of the Kurdish Unity Conference document, and the role of Kurds in Syria and potential constitutional pathways for their participation in the country’s future.
Organizers emphasized that the forum seeks not only to advance Kurdish political dialogue but also to contribute to a more inclusive and democratic vision for post-conflict Syria.
