German police arrest suspect in Bielefeld stabbing attack

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – German police announced on Monday evening the arrest of a man suspected of stabbing five individuals in the western city of Bielefeld.

Authorities stated that the suspect is believed to be a 35-year-old Syrian national, who was apprehended by special forces in the town of Heiligenhaus, near Düsseldorf, following raids on two separate locations.

According to the German Press Agency (dpa), the police said that the individual in custody is considered the primary suspect, although identity verification is still underway.

The attack took place early Sunday morning outside a bar near Bielefeld’s main train station, where a man assaulted a group of five men—aged between 22 and 27—using a sharp object.

Four of the victims sustained serious injuries, according to police reports.

Prosecutors in Bielefeld noted that the investigation remains open and is exploring all possible lines of inquiry, with further updates expected on Tuesday.

Authorities also confirmed that the suspect has no prior criminal record.
