Security forces arrest 3 former Iran-backed militants in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The General Security forces of the Syrian transitional government arrested on Monday three individuals in Deir ez-Zor governorate, eastern Syria, on charges of former affiliation with Iran-backed militias and failure to undergo a reconciliation process.
A security source reported that patrols from the General Security forces raided the town of Abu Kamal following credible intelligence indicating the presence of former members of Iranian-backed groups moving around local neighborhoods while armed with Kalashnikov rifles.
The operation led to the arrest of Haidar al-Abd al-Wahhab, Haitham al-Barghouth, and Ali al-Barghouth—former fighters with the Iran-aligned Regiment 47.
According to the source, the detainees were found in possession of individual firearms, assorted ammunition, and quantities of hashish.
