No direct contact yet with Damascus over Kurdish demands – PYD official

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – An official of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) said on Friday that no direct communication has taken place with Damascus regarding the recently endorsed Kurdish political document, despite its formal approval at the latest Kurdish conference.

Sama Bakdash, Co-Chair of the PYD Relations Office, told North Press that the lack of engagement with the Syrian transitional government is primarily due to the current instability in the country.

“Despite the absence of contact so far, we are fully prepared—with both the document and a prospective delegation—to go to Damascus and enter into negotiations,” she added.

Bakdash clarified that no meetings have been held yet to determine the mechanism for forming the negotiating delegation.

She indicated that discussions are expected to begin in the coming days to establish a joint delegation that includes representatives from various political forces, independents, and civil society organizations.

On April 26, Kurdish parties and political forces in Syria held a conference in the northeastern city of Qamishli, where they approved a political document outlining the Kurdish vision and demands for resolving the Kurdish issue in Syria.
