SDF forces foil two ISIS attacks in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Thursday that they had repelled two separate attacks carried out by sleeper cells of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
In a statement, the SDF said the first attack targeted a post of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) in the town of Diban.
ISIS militants opened fire with Kalashnikov rifles, but SDF forces responded immediately, forcing the attackers to flee, according to the statement.
The second attack occurred in the village of Jadeed Ekedat, where ISIS cells targeted a military vehicle belonging to the Self-Defense Forces with an RPG.
The SDF forces quickly responded and compelled the attackers to retreat after several of them were injured, the statement added.
The statement also noted that the number of injured militants could not be confirmed and that neither attack resulted in casualties or damage to SDF forces.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Asayish also said that an ISIS assault occurred on one of their posts in eastern Deir ez-Zor.
