Jordanian army foils major drug smuggling attempt from Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Jordanian army announced on Wednesday that it had thwarted an attempt to infiltrate the border and smuggle a large quantity of narcotics from Syrian territory into Jordan.
The Jordanian news channel al-Mamlaka reported citing a military source that border guard forces in coordination with other security and military agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, successfully intercepted an infiltration and smuggling operation involving a significant quantity of narcotics.
According to the source, a group of smugglers was detected attempting to illegally cross the border. Rapid reaction units were immediately deployed, and rules of engagement were applied, forcing the smugglers to retreat back into Syrian territory, the source added.
The operation resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of narcotics, the channel noted.
This incident follows a similar operation this week, during which the Jordanian army also intercepted an attempted drug smuggling operation from Syria.
