Asayish capture two ISIS members in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) announced on Wednesday the capture of two members of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Deir ez-Zor countryside, eastern Syria.

In a statement, the Asayish said that their special units captured two ISIS operatives north of Deir ez-Zor on Tuesday morning, following a targeted security operation.

This announcement came a day after two Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters were killed and a third wounded in an attack by ISIS cells on a military post near the Euphrates River in the town of al-Bahra, east of Deir ez-Zor.

The statement noted that the arrests came after intensive surveillance of the suspects’ movements, which revealed their involvement in activities that endangered regional security and stability, including intimidation of civilians and attacks on security checkpoints.

The operation led to the capture of the suspects and the seizure of weapons and documents in their possession.

According to the Asayish, preliminary investigations have been launched, and the detainees will be referred to the judiciary upon completion of legal procedures.

The statement also highlighted a recent uptick in ISIS activity in the Deir ez-Zor countryside, with multiple attacks targeting checkpoints and security installations.
