DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Russian Ambassador to Turkey, Alexei Yerkhov, stated on Tuesday that Syria’s unity is in jeopardy, warning that the country is already divided and faces the risk of further fragmentation.
Speaking to Turkish media, Yerkhov said that the reports they receive, including through the media, confirm that the situation in Syria remains highly complex and not improving. He emphasized that Russia is prepared to assist in efforts to stabilize the country.
The ambassador highlighted ongoing tensions among Syria’s diverse communities, referring to the events that occurred in March along the coast — in Latakia, Tartus, and parts of Homs — as well as the recent clashes in southern Syria involving the Druze community.
Yerkhov stressed the importance of stabilizing Syria’s internal political landscape, preventing the recurrence of such violent incidents, and advancing the reconstruction of the country’s infrastructure, economy, and social institutions.
