Syrian authorities arrest doctor accused of crimes against detainees

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday the arrest of a doctor accused of committing medical crimes against detainees in the Syrian capital Damascus during the rule of the al-Assad regime.

In an official statement, the ministry said that the Damascus Security Directorate had apprehended Dr. Bassam Youssef Salman Ali, a former officer at Tishreen Military Hospital during the previous regime.

According to the statement, Ali is accused of involvement in grave violations, including “turning Tishreen Hospital into a human slaughterhouse” and participating in the torture and killing of detainees referred to the facility.

The ministry also stated that Ali was allegedly involved in the trafficking of human organs and the extortion of detainees’ families.

The statement further noted that he played a direct role in the execution of several detainees by administering lethal injections inside the hospital.
