SDF repels ISIS attacks on military outposts in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Tuesday that they had successfully repelled two coordinated attacks launched by Islamic State (ISIS) cells on their positions in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
According to a statement issued by the SDF Media Center, the first attack occurred on Monday night and targeted a military post belonging to the Diban Brigade.
The ISIS cell involved in the assault used RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) launchers during the offensive, the SDF added.
Another ISIS-affiliated cell carried out a second attack on a military checkpoint in the town of Shuhail. The attackers reportedly used PKS machine guns and Kalashnikov rifles in the operation.
The SDF confirmed that its forces successfully repelled both attacks, forcing the assailants to withdraw.
The statement noted that there were no casualties or material damage among SDF personnel. However, some of the attackers were injured, although no precise figures were provided.
These attacks underscore the persistent threat posed by ISIS sleeper cells in the region. Monday’s incidents are the latest in a series of attempted assaults targeting SDF positions in Deir ez-Zor’s restive eastern sector.
