Security forces capture former Iranian-backed operatives in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Security forces of Syria’s transitional government carried out on Friday a series of raids targeting former regime operatives and members of Iranian-backed factions in eastern Deir ez-Zor province, northeastern Syria.
A security source from the General Security Directorate in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that patrol units raided the town of Abu Kamal, detaining three former members of Iranian-affiliated militias.
The identities of the detainees were not disclosed, but they are reportedly accused of carrying out recent attacks on security patrols.
In a separate operation, a patrol raided the al-Joura neighborhood in Deir ez-Zor city and arrested a man identified as Ahmad al-Zaki, a former member of the Zainabiyoun Brigade. He is wanted on charges of murder and other serious crimes, the source said.
In the town of al-Asharah, east of Deir ez-Zor, the security forces arrested Yousef al-Hassan, a former operative in the regime’s military intelligence branch.
He is also accused of involvement in attacks against the General Security forces.
