DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres condemned on Friday Israel’s violations of Syrian sovereignty, including Friday’s airstrikes near the presidential palace in Damascus, according to his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric.
Dujarric stated “It is essential that these attacks stop and that Israel respect Syria’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and independence.”
He added that the Secretary-General unequivocally calls on all parties to cease hostilities, exercise maximum restraint, and avoid any further escalation.
Guterres, he noted, is following developments in southern Syria and the Damascus suburbs “with alarm,” particularly reports of civilian casualties and the assassination of local officials. He condemned all violence against civilians and warned against acts that could incite sectarian conflict.
The Syrian presidency described the Israeli strikes near the palace as a “dangerous escalation.” Israel, in turn, said the strike was a warning to deter any attacks on the Druze minority in Syria following recent violence.
In a separate statement, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli strike, calling it a blatant violation of international law and Syrian sovereignty and a dangerous escalation that will only deepen regional tensions.
Ministry spokesperson Sufian al-Qudah reaffirmed Jordan’s absolute rejection and strong condemnation of ongoing Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, citing violations of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and a clear assault on the sovereignty of an Arab state.
Al-Qudah emphasized Jordan’s full solidarity with Syria—its security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and urged the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities by compelling Israel to cease its provocative and illegitimate attacks and to end its occupation of Syrian land.
