Jordan loosens entry restrictions for Syrians to boost economic ties
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Jordan’s Ministry of Interior introduced on Tuesday a series of new measures to facilitate the entry and exit of Syrian nationals, aiming to support the national economy and further develop relations with neighboring Syria.
In a statement released via the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Ministry spokesperson Tareq al-Majali announced that Syrian university professors employed at Jordanian institutions, as well as Syrian students enrolled in universities and community colleges across the Kingdom, will now be permitted to enter Jordan without requiring prior approval.
According to the statement, all Syrian nationals holding valid Jordanian business registrations—regardless of their registered capital amount—will now be allowed to travel to and from Syria without the need for prior clearance, provided they possess an active Jordanian professional license and meet the country’s security requirements.
The new policy also allows Syrian nationals who own property in Jordan—valued at more than 50,000 dinars (approx. USD 70,500)—and their immediate family members to travel to and from Syria without prior approval, again pending security clearance.
Syrians living in Syria who hold property deeds but have never entered Jordan must still apply for prior entry permission.
Furthermore, Syrians who receive monthly pensions from Jordan’s Social Security Corporation are also now eligible to travel to and from the Kingdom without needing prior authorization, provided no security restrictions apply.
These regulatory updates are part of a broader Jordanian initiative to facilitate legal movement, encourage investment, and strengthen people-to-people and economic ties between the two neighboring countries.
