SDF intensifies security measures in Deir z-Zor following ISIS attack
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Tuesday that they are ramping up security measures in response to recent attacks targeting their forces in Deir ez-Zor countryside, eastern Syria.
According to a statement published on their official website, the SDF forces intensified security operations and patrols across the region due to a noticeable uptick in the activity of sleeper cells of the Islamic State (ISIS), particularly in Deir ez-Zor and across Syria.
On Monday, five SDF fighters were killed in an armed attack by unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle in the town of Jazrat al-Buhamid, west of Deir ez-Zor. A statement later attributed to ISIS claimed responsibility for the assault.
The SDF’s statement added that ISIS is attempting to reestablish a pattern of targeted attacks against military and civil institutions, as well as social gatherings, in a bid to destabilize the region.
