New batch of 76 displaced families leave Hawl Camp to Deir ez-Zor

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Dozens of Syrian families departed on Sunday from Hawl Camp in the south of Hasakah, northeastern Syria, returning to their original homes in Deir ez-Zor.

This marks the first such relocation from Hawl Camp since the fall of the al-Assad regime on Dec. 8, 2024, carried out under the voluntary return initiative for displaced Syrians, announced earlier this year by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

A total of 76 families, comprising 296 individuals, left the camp to return to their areas of origin in Deir ez-Zor.

Sheikhmus Ahmad, co-chair of the AANES’ Office of Displaced Persons and Refugees, stated that all necessary facilities are being provided to those wishing to leave the camps.

He told North Press that the decision also includes forcibly displaced individuals from the cities of Afrin, Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), and Tel Abyad, once conditions allow.

He added that return trips would continue until all displaced persons and refugees are able to go back to their homes.

The evacuation process is overseen by the Syrian Center for Studies and Dialogue, in coordination with the Hawl Camp administration, the Department of Organizations Affairs, the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council, and local tribal figures.
