Kurdistan Regional Government welcomes Kurdish Unity efforts in Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Spokesperson for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Peshawa Hawramani, stated on Sunday that the KRG welcomes initiatives aimed at Kurdish unity in Syria.
Hawramani’s comments came in response to the Kurdish Unity Conference that was held in the city of Qamishli, northeastern Syria on Saturday.
“We in the Kurdistan Regional Government have maintained a clear vision from the beginning, aspiring to Kurdish unity and stability in Rojava,” Hawramani said. “Such stability, achieved through a unified vision among all parties, is a positive and crucial step in the right direction.”
He added that the KRG is committed to doing everything within its capacity to support the Kurdish people in Syria.
The Kurdish Unity Conference concluded on Saturday with the reading of a final statement and the ratification of a political document calling for constitutional recognition of the Kurdish people’s national identity and the guarantee of their rights.
The document also advocated for unifying Kurdish regions into a single, integrated administrative and political unit within a federal Syrian framework.
The conference was attended by representatives of Syrian Kurds, Kurdish political parties and figures from the broader Kurdistan region, as well as delegates from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), the two largest political parties in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and a delegate from the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Parti), a Turkish pro-Kurdish party.
