UK lifts sanctions on Syrian ministries, intelligence bodies

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The United Kingdom announced on Thursday the lifting of sanctions and the unfreezing of assets belonging to Syria’s Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Interior, and several intelligence agencies.

This follows a similar move in March, when the UK lifted asset freezes on the Syrian Central Bank and 23 other financial and oil-related institutions.

In an official update published on its website, the UK Treasury listed 12 Syrian entities that are no longer subject to British sanctions. These include the two ministries and the General Intelligence Directorate, as well as several unnamed security institutions.

While sanctions on these entities have been lifted, the UK emphasized that restrictions on individuals associated with the former Assad regime will remain in effect.
