U.S. Rep. meets Syria’s al-Sharaa to discuss sanctions, regional peace

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – A senior U.S. official revealed on Wednesday that he held a 90-minute meeting with Syria’s Transitional President, Ahmad al-Sharaa, during which they discussed the possibility of lifting economic sanctions and other key regional issues.

U.S. Representative, Cory Mills, disclosed that his discussions with al-Sharaa included the conditions under which U.S. sanctions might be lifted, as well as prospects for peace between Syria and Israel.

Mills stated that he would deliver a message by al-Sharaa to U.S. President, Donald Trump. He declined to share the content of al-Sharaa’s message.

In a separate statement to The New York Times on Wednesday, al-Sharaa remarked that some of the American conditions for sanctions relief require further dialogue.

Mills also revealed that his visit to Damascus last week was part of an unofficial fact-finding mission organized by a group of influential Syrian Americans.

He added that he plans to brief President Trump and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz on the outcomes of the discussions upon his return.
