Syrian Interior Ministry seizes cache of weapons en route to Suwayda
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Monday the seizure of a large cache of weapons and ammunition, including missiles, found inside a vehicle allegedly being smuggled into Suwayda Governorate in southern Syria.
According to the ministry’s statement, the vehicle’s driver was apprehended while attempting to transport the weapons into the area.
The confiscated items reportedly included anti-tank missiles, heavy machine guns, Katyusha rockets, and significant quantities of ammunition.
The announcement comes two days after the General Security Directorate, under the Interior Ministry, launched a security campaign in the southern governorate of Daraa to pursue wanted individuals and crack down on the proliferation of weapons and ammunition.
The Interior Ministry added that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the smuggling operation, as reported by the state-run news agency of SANA.
