German delegation discusses political developments with AANES officials in Qamishli

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A delegation from the German Embassy in Damascus visited on Sunday the headquarters of the Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in Qamishli, northeastern Syria, where they held meetings with several senior officials.

In a statement released by AANES, the delegation was led by Margaret Jakob, Chargé d’Affaires at the German Embassy in Damascus, accompanied by other members of the embassy staff.

The delegation was received by Co-Chairs of the AANES Foreign Relations Department, Ilham Ahmad and Fanar al-Gaeit, along with Deputy Co-Chairs Rubel Baho and Gulistan Ali.

The discussions touched on the current situation in North and East Syria and the broader Syrian context following the fall of the Assad regime.

The AANES representatives presented an overview of their governance model, reaffirmed their commitment to Syria’s territorial integrity, and provided updates on the status of negotiations between the AANES and the central government in Damascus.

The meeting also addressed the terms of the ongoing dialogue and the committees formed to explore administrative integration between the AANES and the Syrian transitional government.

Both sides discussed the recent U.S. Department of Defense decision to reduce American troop presence in the region, and the potential implications for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the ongoing fight against ISIS.

Margaret Jakob emphasized the importance of a comprehensive political solution in Syria and highlighted the necessity of continued dialogue with all components of Syrian society.

She also expressed appreciation for the military and administrative agreements being forged between the AANES and Damascus, noting that the international community views these understandings as a positive step toward long-term stability.
