Trump halts Israeli plan to strike Iranian nuclear facilities

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. President Donald Trump halts an Israeli military operation planned for May targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, The New York Times reported on Wednesday.

Citing senior U.S. officials and sources familiar with classified Israeli plans, the report revealed that Israel had developed a detailed strategy—coordinated with Washington—to strike Iranian nuclear sites within weeks. The goal was to delay Tehran’s ability to develop a nuclear weapon by at least a year.

According to the report, the execution of the plan relied heavily on direct American support, either to counter a potential Iranian retaliation or to ensure the effectiveness of the Israeli airstrikes.

The newspaper noted that Trump’s decision to block the operation came after months of internal debate within the U.S. administration. The divide was between officials advocating for a military response—referred to as “hawks”—and others who were concerned that such an attack could trigger a broader regional conflict.

Ultimately, the administration reached a fragile consensus in favor of pursuing diplomacy, as the U.S. and Iran had just begun negotiations and agreed to resume talks, according to the report.
