Syria’s security forces arrest ex-officer of intelligence in Latakia
LATAKIA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday the arrest of a former intelligence officer in Latakia Governorate, western Syria, accused of committing war crimes under Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
In an official statement, the Ministry said that the General Security forces apprehended Brigadier General Salem Daghestani, the former head of the Investigation Branch of the Air Intelligence Directorate, during a security operation.
According to the statement, Daghestani was arrested in Latakia and is facing charges related to war crimes.
He previously held several key positions, including head of the investigation department at Saydnaya prison and head of the security committee in the Eastern Ghouta region.
The ministry noted that Daghestani played a central role in overseeing the so-called “reconciliation file” and has since been referred to the Public Prosecution to proceed with the necessary legal actions.
