Japan pledges €3 million to Syria Reconstruction

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Japanese Embassy in Damascus announced on Wednesday a new financial contribution of €3 million to the Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF), marking Japan’s ninth donation since the fund’s inception.

Acting Chargé d’Affaires and Special Coordinator for Syria, Akihiro Tsuji, shared the news via a post on X, stating: “We are proud to continue our support for the SRTF, reaffirming Japan’s commitment to delivering essential assistance to the Syrian people.”

“This latest contribution reflects our confidence in the Fund’s impactful work and arrives at a pivotal moment as Syria enters a new phase of recovery,” he added.

Tsuji confirmed that his country “remains steadfast in our dedication to fostering stability, resilience, and hope for a brighter future for the people of Syria.”

This latest contribution comes shortly after the European Commission’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations announced in mid-March its intention to gradually ease sanctions on Syria and participate in the country’s reconstruction process.

Established in 2013 by Germany, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States, the Syria Recovery Trust Fund is a multi-donor trust fund dedicated to financing rehabilitation and restoration projects for essential services across Syria.
