Russian, UN forces to launch joint patrols in Syria’s Coastal Region

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Russian military announced on Monday that, starting Tuesday, its forces will begin conducting joint patrols with United Nations peacekeeping troops in several villages across Syria’s Latakia Governorate, including the coastal city of Jableh.

This security move follows intense clashes in early March between Syrian General Security forces and armed groups accused of ties to remnants of the former regime.

The violence, which erupted in multiple areas along Syria’s coast, resulted in hundreds of casualties and underscored the region’s fragile stability.

According to a statement published by the Russian military via its central communications channel, the joint patrols will be conducted daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

“These patrols are aimed at monitoring the security situation and observing civilian movements, in order to enhance public safety and reinforce a sense of stability in the region,” the statement read.

The Russian military emphasized that the operation is part of a broader framework of international cooperation to ensure the protection of local populations.

It also falls within a strategic plan to assess on-the-ground realities and reinforce security in Syria’s coastal areas.
