Joint committees in Aleppo set up checkpoints in Kurdish neighborhoods
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Joint committees from the Syrian transitional government and the council of Kurdish neighborhoods in Aleppo began on Sunday removing all earthen berms surrounding the Ashrafiyeh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods.
The committees established seven joint checkpoints staffed by personnel from both sides. The move is expected to ease congestion and improve the flow of traffic for residents in both neighborhoods.
Saraqa Amouri, a member of the joint committee and a leader in the General Security, told North Press, “Today, the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) were integrated with personnel from the Ministry of Interior.”
Amouri emphasized that the initiative aims to ensure security in Aleppo without causing disruption to the city or its residents. “The implementation is progressing faster than expected, and things are going well,” he added.
Nuri Sheikho, co-chair of the council of Kurdish neighborhoods in Aleppo, confirmed that the move is part of the broader agreement reached with the Syrian transitional government.
“This step, which aims to facilitate traffic without incident, is being carried out under the joint supervision of the People’s Municipality and the Internal Security Forces as part of implementing the agreement,” Sheikho stated.
