DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two individuals, including a Syrian army explosives specialist, were killed on Wednesday in separate landmine explosions in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
According to a military source from the 117th Brigade of the Syrian Ministry of Defense, engineering units were dispatched following reports from local residents about the presence of unexploded ordnance near civilian homes.
The team responded to defuse the landmines—remnants from previous conflicts in the region.
The source told North Press that Sergeant Saddam al-Bseis, a military engineer, was killed instantly when a landmine detonated while he was attempting to defuse it.
In a separate incident, a civilian identified as Saleh al-Yassin was killed when a landmine exploded near the paper factory on the outskirts of al-Husayniyah town, also in Deir ez-Zor.
