Russia welcomes SDF integration deal as step toward Syria’s unity

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described on Wednesday the recent agreement to integrate the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into Syrian state institutions as a step toward restoring the country’s unity.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Zakharova said that they view the agreement reached between the Syrian authorities and the SDF as a positive step toward restoring Syria’s unity and enhancing its security and stability.

On March 10, Commander-in-Chief of the SDF, Mazloum Abdi, and Syria’s Transitional President, Ahmad al-Sharaa, signed an agreement in Damascus to recognize Kurdish rights and ensure the integration of key institutions, and sets the framework for joint security cooperation.

She acknowledged that implementing the agreement would not be without serious challenges, stating that they understand that the execution of the signed accords will face significant obstacles of various kinds.

However, she noted that overcoming these difficulties will require both parties to maintain a constructive stance and a readiness to compromise.
