HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – A senior official at the Al-Hol camp in eastern Hasakah denied on Wednesday night rumors circulating online about a new fire breaking out inside the facility.
The rumors, which quickly spread across social media platforms, claimed that several tents had caught fire. However, camp co-chair Jihan Hanan confirmed to North Press that no new incidents had occurred.
Hanan explained that a fire had indeed broken out several days ago, affecting five tents. “It was caused by a cooking mishap,” she said, adding that the blaze resulted in material losses only, without any casualties.
The earlier fire damaged several tents and the belongings inside but was swiftly contained by emergency response teams.
“All reports circulating today about a new fire are completely false,” Hanan stated, dismissing them as baseless rumors.
Al-Hol camp, which houses tens of thousands of individuals, including families of ISIS members, has seen periodic incidents due to overcrowding and limited infrastructure. Camp authorities continue to urge residents and media to avoid spreading unverified information, which can cause panic and confusion among the population.
